
Rhythm Society
'Rhythm Society' is a Dehradun based non-benefit, non-government organization for performing arts which was founded by Kathak Danseuse Ms. Namrata Rai and registered under society act in year 2009.
Rhythm Society under the aegis of its artistic director - the world renowned Tabla Maestro and Music Composer, Pt. Udhai Mazumdar, every year holds “Smriti” in memory of Late Dr. Madhukar Anand. This four days Indian classical Music and Dance festival in New Delhi and Dehradun is a gateway for rejoicing the Vedic arts and contemporary India, where the aim is to spread Indian classical performing arts amongst the general masses. Rhythm society is been continuously working for a better understanding of our diverse cultural heritage and keeping them alive.
Rhythm Society also has its teaching centers in Dehradun and New Delhi for the propagation of Indian classical performing arts where time-to-time Maestros of their own field impart their musical experience with the budding students of the society.

VISION
- Conservation and restoration of the indigenous cultural wealth through music and dance.
- Create conditions for cultures to flourish and to interact freely in a mutually beneficial manner.
- Promote music & dance as an important vehicle for development of young people, in well devised formats.
- To construe appreciation for Indian classical music and dance amongst young minds.
- To bring to the forefront unsung genres of music and the practitioners.
MISSION
- Initiate periodical/ annual projects.
- Develop modules to create path breaking platforms, both international and within India.
- Engage governments and institutes, for active participation.
- Work closely with other NGOs, Companies and Brands of similar interests.
- Create platform for indigenous/ethnic performing arts and artists to flourish.
PROJECTS
Rhythm Society thrives on its annual festival “Smriti”, apart from workshops and teaching in the cities of Dehradun and Delhi. “Smriti” accentuates bringing both upcoming and maestros together in same platform to gain maximum value for the both, touching upon the core idea of attracting new generations to experience the cultural wealth and its progressive settings.
Abhyāsa - Rhythm Society, in celebration of its 15 years in 2023, introduced one more project, "Abhyāsa," under which Maestros of different genres give masterclasses to the students of Rhythm Society to make students comprehend the complex inter-linkages between the classical dance tradition and other classical performing arts.

Namrata Rai
Inspiration, innovation, self-expression, creativity… Namrata found home for all these qualities in the beautiful form of Kathak at a very early age. Today Namrata is one of the most sought after amongst the young generation of Kathak dancers, in the country and abroad. Namrata lives in New Delhi and is engaged in performing all over India and abroad including the Indian National Television and imparting knowledge to the students.

pt. udhai mazumdar
Born in Allahabad, and started learning Tabla and Hinduatani Vocal at the age of seven. In 1981, he became a disciple of Kaviraj Ashutosh Bhattacharya. In 1988, to further his musical knowledge, Udai went to Delhi and became the disciple of the sitar maestro Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar. He lived and learned with the Maestro in the age old tradition of "Guru Shiyha Parampara". Now one of an iconic Tabla player of the country Udhai has performed for the Royal Families of Britain and Sweden. He has accompanied Ravi Shankar on various occasions. Udhai made his presence felt while performing with Zakir Hussain on the eve of the 75th birthday celebration of Ravi Shankar. Udhai has broadcast on Radio DRS in Switzerland, BBC TV and Radio France. He has toured extensively across the globe, namely: Durgalal Festival Delhi, The Saptak Festival Ahmedabad, Vasantahabba Festival Bengaluru, International Folk Festival Hungary, Drum Festival Germany, World Music Festival Rome, International Festival for Chernobyl Victims Minsk, Internal Festivals for contemporary Music, Mongolia, Odessa, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc. More recently he created a musical based on the 11th century epic Geet Govind by Jayadev, called “Geet Govinda – The eternal love song of Krishna”, 'Kabir Tulsi and Us', 'Singing Strings' and 'Bhaskar - The Rising' for which he has also composed and recorded the original music score.

“Smriti” seeks to conserve and promote an awareness of our rich Indian classical Music & Dance and to facilitate an awareness of the deeper and subtler values towards our diverse cultural heritage. This two-day festival will be seeing an amalgamation of Maestros of Indian Classical Music as well as talented younger generation Musicians and Dancers.
This four-day festival is a tribute to Late Dr. Madhukar Anand, who was since many years living in Dehradun & Delhi contributing towards Indian Classical Dance and Music. “Smriti” is a blend of country’s eminent maestros with the vibrancy of exceptional young talents who the society believes are going to be the Maestros of coming years.
